EU Opening - European stock markets are expected to move slow

Written on 12/14/2022

European stock markets are expected to move little at the start of the session (Eurostoxx50 futures -0.08%) even if Wall Street futures are up (+0.2% on the Dow Jones and +0.24% on the S&P500) after on December 13, year-on-year US inflation in November, lower than estimates (7.1% against 7.3% expected and 7.7% in October), gave fuel to the markets because it reinforces the belief that the Fed in today's meeting will raise by 50 basis points and not 75 as previously assumed (at 20:00 the announcement, at 20:30 the press conference of the president, Jerome Powell).
Core inflation is also down, albeit more moderately than estimated: 6% versus 6.1% estimated. Falling energy prices have helped keep inflation at bay.
